Let’s face it, BRE says it best, “Dating sucks. Dating in LA sucks. Dating in LA in your late twenties/early thirties sucks. That’s the place where ‘Rather Be Alone’ came from. After being f*ckboyed one too many times, I couldn’t help but think to myself, ‘Honestly, I’d rather be alone than deal with this BS!’”

"I have huge goals, I'm not going to lie. 'Idol' for me was like if I'm going to do this artist thing I'm going to go all out," said BRE. "There's no Plan B; this is it. I actually started something on TikTok called 'From No one to Stadium' where I document every day of pursuing this dream of going from someone knows about to headline a stadium, which is my ultimate goal. The 'Idol' process is what inspired me to do that and I want to take this absolutely as far as I can I want the world to hear my music but I also want to hopefully inspire others who maybe have given up on their dreams anyone can make their dreams come true."

Bre Podgorski is a dueling piano bar performer and singer with extensive experience. In 2014, her band, Bre-L saw success with the release of their “Oblivion” cover by Grimes which has over 2 million streams on Spotify to date. TheBr group eventually split, and she released solo music under Bre-L and since 2021 has released music under the single-name moniker of BRE. According to her website, at the age of 13, her family relocated from Illinois to Los Angeles, and she worked with some producers as a country singer. Later feeling burnt out, she moved first to Austin, Texas to work for a tech startup and later to New Zealand as a part of an environmental group where she started playing piano and performing in bars. Eventually she returned to her Los Angeles home.

BRE is from Burbank and is thrilled to dip her toe into the "Idol" world.

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series! Before we dive in, our readers would love to learn a bit about your “origin story”. Can you tell us the story of how you grew up?

Thanks for having me! I grew up in small suburb in Illinois, very middle class, nothing special. Then when I was 12, I won an international acting competition and my family decided to pack up and move to California to give me a shot at acting. I did that for a while before realizing that being as tall as I am (I’m 5’11”), I was limited in the roles I’d be able to play. My crowning achievement in acting was playing ‘Jenna the tall girl’ in a show. That was literally the name of the character. I stepped away from acting to pursue music and haven’t looked back.
